SMS code not arriving or not working
What to do when the text message with the code does not arrive, the code is rejected or has expired. You can solve most problems yourself in a minute.
How codes work
When you sign up and every time you sign in, we send a text message with a 6-digit code. The code is valid for 30 minutes. If you request a new one, earlier codes that have not expired yet still work (we remember the last 3). So you do not have to wait for the newest text message.
To protect accounts and limit abuse, we have limits. You can request a new code after 60 seconds. We send at most 5 text messages to one number within 24 hours. After 5 wrong codes you need to request a new code.
When the text message does not arrive
On the website
- Wait up to a minute. Text messages sometimes arrive with a delay.
- Check the number in the line “Code sent to …”. If it is wrong, click “Change phone number” and enter it again. Pay attention to the country dial code.
- After 60 seconds click “Send again” (before that you will see the countdown “Resend code in …”).
- If you see “The SMS with your code already arrived at … Check your messages - that code still works.”, the code is already on your phone. Look for it in your messages, including the spam folder or messages from unknown senders.
In the app
- Wait a moment. Below the countdown the app says: “SMS can take up to a minute to arrive.”
- Check the number. For a new account tap “Edit Phone Number” if you need to correct it.
- After 60 seconds tap “Resend code”.
- On Android the code usually fills in by itself. If not, copy it from the message.
The code came by email instead of SMS
In a few countries carriers do not deliver our text messages. For numbers from these countries we send the code by email and say: “Carriers in your country don't deliver our text messages, so we're sending the code by email. Check your spam folder too.” When you sign up in such a country, your account is ready once you confirm your email, and no text message will come. We send at most 6 email codes per hour to one account.
If you sign up from a different country than your number's country (e.g. you are travelling), we may first ask you to confirm your email with a code. Only then will we send the text message.
When the code is rejected
- “Invalid verification code” - check that you are copying the 6 digits from the newest message and that there are no spaces.
- The code has expired (30 minutes have passed) - request a new one.
- After 5 wrong attempts request a new code and enter it carefully.
You no longer have access to your number
If you changed your number or lost your phone, the code will not reach your old number. Use the “Can't access this number?” link on the sign-in screen. You will confirm the change through your account email and an SMS code sent to the new number. Details: “Changing your phone number” in the Account and security section.
Frequently asked questions
How many times can I request a code?
A new code every 60 seconds, but at most 5 text messages to one number within 24 hours. The counter resets after a successful sign-in.
I requested a new code and got two. Which one do I enter?
Either one that is less than 30 minutes old. The last 3 codes work.
My number is from a different country than the one I am in. Is that a problem?
No, but we may first ask you to confirm your email. It is extra protection against bots.
Can I sign in without a code?
No. The SMS code (or the email code in countries without SMS) is the only way to sign in.
Something not working?
I got a message in English about too many attempts.
You entered a wrong code 5 times. Request a new code and enter it again.
Text messages do not arrive at all, even though the number is correct.
Check that your phone has signal and that you are not blocking messages from unknown senders. If you have used up the limit of 5 text messages per day, try the next day or message us in the chat.
My number's country is not on the list.
Signing up is not possible from some countries. Such countries do not appear in the dial code list. Message us if you think it is a mistake.
