Connections: how a conversation starts
A connection is made when two people both choose “Add”. From then on you can message each other for free, without VIP.
How it works
When you click “Add” on someone's card, that person gets a “Good news!” notification. Without VIP they see “Someone wants to meet you”, and with VIP - your first and last name. If they also choose “Add” (on their own cards or in the “They want to meet you” list), a connection is made.
- The person who clicked first gets a notification that the other side has connected with them.
- The person who clicked second immediately sees the “Both said yes” screen with the “Send a message” and “Keep discovering” buttons.
- We automatically create your conversation in the chat.
- From then on you are each other's contacts: you see each other's posts with “Friends” visibility and can tag each other (depending on settings).
Clicking “Add” a second time on the same person does not send another notification - you will not flood anyone.
Connecting from a conversation
If you are already chatting (for example, someone with VIP messaged you first), you can also propose a connection in the conversation. In the app the conversation menu has “Make Connection”, and after sending - “Connection Waiting”.
On the website: from “Add” to a conversation
- “Meet” → “Browse profiles” and click “Add” on a person.
- When the connection is made, click “Send a message” on the “Both said yes” screen.
- Later you will find this person in “Meet” → “Contacts” and in the chat (speech bubble icon in the top bar).
In the app: from “Add” to a conversation
- “Search” → “For You” and swipe the card up.
- After connecting you will see a screen with your new contact - go to the conversation from there.
- You will find the conversation in the bottom menu under “Chat”, and the person in the menu (your photo) → “Connections”.
Good to know
- Messaging your connections is free. You only need VIP to message someone you have no connection or conversation with.
- When someone blocks you, the connection no longer lets you message them.
- Deleting a contact removes the connection and your answers in Meet. More in the article about contacts.
Frequently asked questions
I clicked “Add” and nothing happened.
A connection is only made when the other person also chooses “Add”. Until then, you are waiting in their “They want to meet you” list.
Can I undo “Add”?
Yes, as long as there is no connection: go back to the card (“Previous”) and choose “Skip”. Once the connection is made, you can delete the contact in the app.
Does a connection cost anything?
No. Connections and messaging them are free.
