Editing and deleting messages and conversations

You can correct a sent message within 15 minutes, delete it for yourself or for everyone, and remove a whole conversation from your list.

How it works

  • “Edit” - only your text messages and only within 15 minutes of sending. A corrected message shows “edited”.
  • “Delete for me” - the message disappears only for you. You can delete any message in the conversation this way.
  • “Delete for everyone” - only your messages, with no time limit. The other person will see “This message was deleted”. In group chats the admin can delete any member's message this way.
  • “Reply” - you quote a specific message. “Copy” - you copy the text.
  • Reactions - one emoji reaction per person. Choosing the same reaction again removes it.

On the website: message actions

  1. Hover over a message and click “···” (on a phone the button is always visible).
  2. Choose a reaction from the bar or “Reply”, “Copy”, “Edit” or “Delete”.
  3. When deleting, choose “Delete for me” or “Delete for everyone”.

In the app: message actions

  1. Press and hold a message.
  2. Choose a reaction from the bar above it or “Reply”, “Copy”, “Edit” or “Delete”.
  3. When deleting, choose “Delete for me” or “Delete for everyone”.

Deleting a whole conversation

On the website: deleting a conversation

  1. In the conversation click “More options” (⋯) in the header.
  2. Choose “Delete Conversation” and confirm.

In the app: deleting a conversation

  1. In the conversation open the menu in the header.
  2. Choose “Delete conversation” and confirm. The option is visible once the conversation has messages.
Note: Deleting a conversation cannot be undone. The conversation disappears only for you - the other person still has the whole history. If you do not want any more messages from this person, block them.

Good to know

  • Voice messages and photos cannot be edited - you can only delete them.
  • There is no muting, archiving or pinning of conversations.
  • A group is deleted differently - we describe it in the article about group chats.
Tip: Made a mistake in a message? Fix it straight away with “Edit” instead of sending a second one - the conversation stays easy to read.

Frequently asked questions

I do not see the “Edit” option.

More than 15 minutes have passed, or it is a voice message or a photo. You can only delete it.

Will the other person get a notification about the deletion?

No. They will see “This message was deleted” in the conversation when you delete it for everyone.

I deleted the conversation, but the person can still message me.

Yes, deleting only affects your list. To stop the messages, block this person.
