How to describe an event well

People decide in a few seconds: based on the title, photo and first sentence. Here are practical tips on how to make the most of each field in the form.

Title - up to 50 characters

The title is shown in lists, on the map and in search results. You only have 50 characters, so be specific: what it is and who it is for.

  • Good: “Networking breakfast for SaaS founders”.
  • Weak: “Meeting” or “Join us!!!”.
  • Add the city only if it fits within the limit - the place is shown next to the event anyway.

Short description - up to 115 characters

This is one sentence under the title in lists. Use it to answer the question “why should I come?”: what I will gain, who I will meet, what I will learn.

Full description - up to 5000 characters

  • Start with the most important thing: who the event is for and what will happen.
  • Add a programme or agenda with times.
  • Introduce the hosts or guests.
  • Say what attendees take away: knowledge, contacts, materials.
  • Short paragraphs read better than one block of text.

Photo

A photo is required, and it is what catches the eye in the list. Use your own photo from a previous edition, the venue or the hosts. If you do not have one, choose an image from the “Gallery”. After uploading you can adjust the crop and zoom.

Categories, place and date

  • Choose categories that really fit - people filter events by them.
  • For an in-person event choose the address from the list of suggestions so the event appears on the map and in the “Near you” section.
  • In “Add Further Instructions” write what is not in the address: floor, room number, door entry code.
  • Check the timezone, especially for online events for people from different countries.

After publishing

  • Share the event with the “Share Event” button - on social media, in the chat or by email.
  • Invite your contacts with “Invite Friends via Chat”.
  • Ask friends for a “Boost” - boosts push the event up in “Trending now”.
  • Send guests a BZZ message with important information before the start.
Tip: Before publishing, read the description on your phone. Most people look at events on a small screen.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change the description after publishing?

The description is in one language. Will someone from another country understand it?

Yes. The event has a translate button that translates the description into the reader's language.
